Welcome to Bijeau – Stone & Bone Jewelry

MY BLOGSDecember, 2009 - When I walk along the beaches and look for my jewels, I often wonder where all the shells, stones and all the other materials are coming from. All kinds of questions go through my head and I try to find answers. I know I don’t have them and the best I can do is just guess.

I can also turn to the Internet and find some answers to my questions. Just recently I discovered an interesting article on Ocean-Floor Sediment and I would like to share some of this information with you. This will explain why some of my jewelry is so bizarre and peculiar in shape and color. During storms, pieces break off and travel by waves for enormous distances.

The ocean floor is composed of all kinds of different material, things you don’t even think of. Apparently sediment contains eroded land material, biological and volcanic matter, as well as particles from seawater and believe it or not; some  material which derives from interstellar space.

As I go on reading this article, I get fascinated, however it is very scientific and detailed. I will have to give you “the short version” at a later date. Some of the pictures shown are mesmerizing, maybe I can take one of my diving pictures to show you some sea floor and underwater life. It is a great experience.

Talk to you later!
